06/18/2017 - John Aase Selected for All-Star Series

The Rails' John Aase has been selected to play in the 2017 Play Ball! Minnesota High School Baseball All-Star Series at Chaska Athletic Park, June 22-24.

Aase compiled a 16-10 career win-loss record as a pitcher in his four-year varsity career. He had a 2.32 ERA in 145 innings pitched, with 160 strikeouts compared to 76 walks. He batted .386 (96 for 249) for his career, with a school-record 27 doubles, five triples, and seven home runs. He had 85 RBI and 24 stolen bases. Along with his doubles record, he is also Proctor's new leader in career slugging percentage (.618) and total bases (154).

Aase joins other local players Travis Carruth from Hibbing and Jake Dubla and Sam Laakso, both from Duluth East, on the North squad, coached by Foley's Mike Beier and Warroad's Scott Knutson. The other five teams are Metro East, Metro North, Metro South, Metro West, and South.

He is the fifth Rails player to participate in the series in the past six years. Justin Scanlon became the first known Proctor player selected for the series in 2011. Ben Nelson, 2013; Evan Scherber, 2014; and Jake Malec, 2016, followed Scanlon. Proctor Head Coach Kyle Wojtysiak served on the North team's coaching staff in 2014.

Organized in 2004, Play Ball! Minnesota is a joint effort by the Minnesota Twins Community Fund and Minnesota youth baseball and softball organizations to promote and improve the games of baseball and softball for Minnesota youth.

According to its website, "In 1975, a group of Minnesota high school baseball coaches created the Minnesota High School Baseball All-Star Series for the purpose of recognizing the best graduating seniors from the state.

In 2013, Play Ball! Minnesota became the naming partner of this prestigious event [formerly known as the Lions All-Star Series]. Through a coach-led nomination process, senior baseball players are chosen for the all-star teams. Team rosters are comprised of players from all over Minnesota.

Play Ball! Minnesota is proud to partner with the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association to present this first-class experience for the top senior players in Minnesota.

Many of Minnesota's legendary players have participated in this event. Tournament festivities include an opening banquet, opening ceremonies, games and closing ceremonies."
