12/11/2018 - Coaching Clinic; College Recruiting Seminar at PHS

Retired Minnesota Gophers baseball coach Rob Fornasiere will be presenting a coaching clinic at the PHS auditorium at 10:00 a.m. on January 19, 2019. All Proctor Area youth coaches are welcome to attend the event free of charge.

 

Additionally, Coach Fornasiere will conduct a college recruiting presentation at 3:00 p.m., also at the PHS auditorium. Athletes and families of all sports are welcome to attend this session that will include NCAA academic and recruiting rules, timing, criteria for making a decision, academic and financial implications, and a description of the differences in a Division I, II, or III athlete, or junior college options. A Q & A session will follow the presentation. The college recruiting session is $20 per family.

Coach Fornasiere served 39 years as a college coach. Minnesota had 1,164 wins compared to 780 losses (.599) in his 33 seasons (1986-2018). He recruited more than 350 student-athletes to the U of M. The Gophers won nine Big Ten Championships and eight Big Ten Tournament Championships and finished first or second 20 times, with 17 NCAA Tournament appearances, in his 33 seasons in the Big 10 Conference. He was the 2008 American Baseball Coaches Association's National Assistant Coach of the Year and is a 2018 Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee. All but three baseball student-athletes that finished their eligibility have graduated during his tenure at Minnesota. Prior to his work with the Gophers, he posted a record of 105 wins and 29 losses in six years (1980-85) as head coach at Normandale Community College.
