03/31/2019 - Proctor Baseball to Establish a Hall of Fame

After several years of planning, the Proctor Baseball Hall of Fame is set to become a feature of the Rails Baseball program. The inaugural class will be inducted at the 2020 banquet, following elections held in 2019.

Basing its format on that of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Proctor Baseball Hall of Fame will conduct two annual elections. One player from the 21st century will be elected by senior members of the Rails baseball team. A committee of nine members shall elect inductees from various historical eras, based on a scheduled rotation. The eras are: Early Baseball (1890s-1946), Golden Days (1947-1969), Modern Baseball (1970-1990), and Today's Game (1991-present). First up in the rotation is Early Baseball and Golden Days. Nominees need not have been associated with the high school program for consideration by the historical eras. Era inductees will represent all levels of baseball for the Proctor Area.

The 2019 senior baseball players will select one of three Rails players from 2000-2014. The three candidates have been screened based on Value Over Replacement Player (VORP), a sabermetric statistic that establishes a player's value based on run-creation efficiency (for offense) and run prevention (for pitching) that places both offense and pitching on the same scale, i.e., runs. Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team. The election announcement will be made at the 2019 banquet.

A Historical Eras Committee shall vote on nominees submitted by the public. The committee shall be assembled annually by the Rails baseball coaching staff. The induction rotation for the eras is as follows: Early Baseball: once every 10 years (2020, 2030, 2040, etc.); Golden Days: once every five years (2020, 2025, 2030, etc.); Modern Baseball: twice every five years (2021, 2023, 2026, etc.); Today's Game: twice every five years (2022, 2024, 2027, etc.). The coaching staff shall screen the number of nominees to a maximum of ten (10) for the ballot. Committee members may vote for between zero (0) and four (4) nominees. Any nominee who receives 75% of the vote will gain induction. The deadline for nomination is September 1, 2019. Elections will be announced on October 22, 2019, the day of Game One of the World Series.
