08/01/2021 - Jr. Legion Wins District Championship

ELY, Minn. -- Proctor's Junior American Legion baseball team captured the Eighth District championship by defeating Esko, 6-4, here on Sunday, August 1. Proctor advances to the Division II Junior Legion State Tournament to be held August 6-8 at Montevideo, and will face Caledonia in the quarterfinals at 3:00 p.m. on August 6.


Esko scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut Proctor's lead to 5-4. Proctor added an insurance run in the sixth and held Esko scoreless in the seventh despite allowing two base runners.

Winning pitcher Nick Terhaar worked six and 2/3 innings for the win. He allowed one earned run on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts. AJ Reyelts struck out the only batter he faced for the save.

Josh Monreal led the offense, with two RBI and a double among his three hits, and Carson Pavlowich contributed two hits and two RBI. Esko would have had to defeat Proctor twice to take the title.


Proctor reached the final game by edging Virginia, 5-4, on Saturday, July 31, at Ely. Monreal picked up the win in that game. He tossed six innings and allowed four runs on nine hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Terharr pitched a scoreless seventh frame for the save. Dylan Davidson was Proctor's leading batter, with three hits and an RBI. Monreal knocked out a two-run home run in the first inning to get the scoring started.


Proctor spotted Cherry three runs in the top of the first inning on July 30 at Ely, and trailed 4-3 through three innings before taking the lead with a two-run fourth. That lead held for a 5-4 final score. Pavlowich pitched six and 1/3 relief innings for the win. He allowed one run (unearned) on three hits and five walks with four strikeouts. Monreal led the offense in that game as well, with two hits including a double.


Proctor defeated Eveleth, 7-4, at Aurora on Tuesday, July 27. Tanner Ross earned the win in a complete game. He allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Reyelts had three hits, including a triple, and an RBI while Monreal socked two doubles and had an RBI. Terhaar and Blake Imhoff contributed two RBI apiece.

Proctor takes a 14-4 record into the state tournament. The team's head coach is Sand Jokela and he is assisted by Scott McLeod and Dave Reyelts.
