10/29/2022 - Highlights of Terry Egerdahl’s Baseball Career

Terry Egerdahl, elected to the Proctor Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022, was an athlete par excellence. Jim Malosky, his UMD football coach, said he may have been the best athlete to attend UMD. Egerdahl may be most remembered for football, considering his record-breaking career for the Bulldogs that led to being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 1976 and his role as Proctor's head coach from 1978 until his tragic death at age 27 in 1980. He also achieved success in basketball, having led Proctor to the state tournament in 1972, and baseball. His .636 batting average in 1972 ranks fifth in state high school records through the 2022 season. He is the only Rails baseball player to garner all-conference recognition for four seasons, and he is the only player in UMD baseball history to be named team MVP three times.
