Charles "Charley" Aubrey Main Sr.

Charles "Charley" Aubrey Main Sr., 70, of North Central Avenue, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997, in St. Luke's Hospice.

He was born in La Crosse, Wis., and was a longtime resident of Proctor and Duluth. He graduated from Proctor High School and Duluth Business University. Charley retired in 1985 after 35 years as a stenographer for the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railroad. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Brotherhood of RR Clerks, West End V.F.W., American Legion and Duluth Federation of Musicians. Charley will be remembered as a well known professional drummer with the 3 Naturals, Gaslighters, and the Bob Palmquist Duo. He performed in many local clubs, including Tony's Cabaret, the former Highland Supper Club and the Saturday afternoon jam session at the Club Saratoga. Charley played the drums for more than 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jessie.

Surviving is his wife, Barbara J.; three sons, Chuck Jr., Frank J., and John M. (Debra), all of Duluth; two daughters, Marsha Kelly of St. Paul, Minn., and Victoria Main (Fred) Veldeman of New York City; a sister, Barbara (Clarence) Fish of West Linn, Ore., a brother, Ron (Christine) of New Hope, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
