Obituary

Thomas "Elijah" Bernard, 73, of Lakeside Manor, formerly of Proctor, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital.

He was born on Feb. 4, 1930 to Milford and Emeline Bernard in Duluth. He was a 1947 graduate of Proctor High School and served with the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He attended the Duluth State Teachers College. He excelled in athletics where he was a star pitcher in high school and an avid bowler at Stadium Lanes. He worked for DM&IR Railroad as a machinist. Elijah was active in AA in Duluth and was a sponsor to many. He was always thinking of new and different ways of doing things, and from that, he is known as the "idea guy."

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna Smith of New Brighton and Nancy (Brian) Peterson of Utica, Mich.; two brothers, James (Mary) of Golden Valley, Minn. and Dr. John (Florence) of Ithaca, New York; three grandsons, Daniel, Benjamin and Adam; four nephews, John, Brett, Brian and Jimmy.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery.
