HERMANTOWN -- Proctor defeated Hermantown, 7-5, in a Lake Superior Conference baseball game at Don Fichtner Memorial Field.

Winning pitcher Matt Morris (1-0 W-L, 0.00 ERA) did not allow an earned run in five and two-thirds innings. He had 13 strikeouts with six hits, four walks, and a hit batsman. Brandt Forstrom earned the save. Forstrom pitched one and one-third perfect innings and had three strikeouts.

Jake Malec led Proctor's offense with two hits and an RBI, while John Aase collected two RBIs. Matt Tracey got his first varsity hit for the Rails, and Brian Tracey scored twice.

Kole Zuidmulder and Nick Bostrom had two hits apiece for Hermantown. Zuidmulder and Jake Haedrich each hit a double and Bostrom had two RBIs.

Hermantown starter Nolan Juusola was the losing pitcher. He allowed two earned runs on four hits, two walks, and a hit batsman with three strikeouts. Jesse Jacques provided steady relief as he allowed two unearned runs on one hit and two walks with six strikeouts in four innings.

The game featured 11 errors. Hermantown committed seven miscues while Proctor had four.

Proctor (2-0) is at Mora on Saturday and Ashland on Monday.
