DULUTH -- Duluth Marshall scored six runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated Proctor, 7-5, in a Lake Superior Conference baseball game at Wade Stadium on Tuesday, May 12.

Marshall's Tyler Pedersen led off the sixth with a triple and Alex Murray walked with one out. Then, Jon Hansen hit into a crafty fielder's choice by Proctor third baseman Brian Tracey on a ball hit down the baseline behind the bag that put out Pedersen at the plate. A walk to Cullen Mudrak loaded the bases. Peter Lenz reached on an error that allowed two runs to score. A walk to Tyler Cummins loaded the bases again, and Proctor starter Jake Malec was then replaced by Brandt Forstrom. Two passed balls during Jordan Fralich's plate appearance allowed two more runs to score, which tied the game at 5-5. Fralich walked and subsequently stole second base, and Cole Brashaw knocked in both Cummins and Fralich with a single to put the Hilltoppers on top. A ground out mercifully ended the inning that saw 10 batters, two hits, two errors, four walks, and two passed balls.

In the top of the seventh, Proctor's Matt Morris hit a single with one out and Matt Sievert reached on error, but the Rails' rally was snuffed out by a fielder's choice and a ground out.

Lenz earned the complete-game victory. He allowed five runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Proctor took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Dylan Pionk singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Reid Morin, and scored when Malec reached on an error. Malec scored from first on Sievert's triple.

Marshall cut the lead to 2-1 on Hansen's RBI single in the fourth, scoring Pedersen.

Malec made the score 3-1 in the fifth on an RBI triple, scoring Pionk. Proctor scored two runs in the top of the sixth for a 5-1 lead. Sievert scored when Matt Tracey reached on an error, and Tracey scored on Nathan Carlson's RBI single.

Pedersen was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run, Brashaw was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and Hansen was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Marshall.

Pionk was 2-for-2 with two runs, and Sievert was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run, and an RBI for Proctor.

Malec (1-2 W-L, 1.58 ERA) was the losing pitcher. He allowed six runs (one earned) on six hits and five walks with six strikeouts in five-and-two-thirds innings.

Proctor, now 8-6, hosts Hermantown on Thursday.
