ELY, Minn. -- Proctor defeated Hibbing, 3-2, in a first-round game of the 2015 Section 7AA Playoffs at Ely on Tuesday, May 26. With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, John Aase's RBI double scored pinch runner [Evan O'Connor] from first base for the go-ahead run. Aase (5-3, W-L, 2.12 ERA) was also the winning pitcher. He tossed four shutout innings in relief of starter Michael Gales, who worked the first three innings. Aase allowed two hits and two walks and had seven strikeouts.

Hibbing scored a run in the first inning on an RBI double by Jeff Courneya. The Bluejackets added another run in the third on an RBI single by Ethan Bayless.

Proctor knotted the score with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Dylan Pionk connected for an RBI single scoring Matt Tracey. Pionk then sacrificed himself by being caught in a run-down in a first-and-third steal situation, but he avoided being tagged for the third out until after Nathan Carlson scored.

Travis Carruth was the losing pitcher. Carruth allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks in five and a third innings. He had five strikeouts.

Proctor, now 11-9, advanced to play against Hermantown directly following the game. The Hawks upset International Falls, 5-3, in an earlier game. Hibbing finished its season with a 5-16 record.
