Proctor tips Central in 8 behind Pionk

Scott Pionk drove in two runs with a triple in the bottom of the eighth to send once-beaten Proctor to a 4-3 extra-inning victory over Central in a Lake Superior Conference game Friday afternoon at Wade Stadium.

Pionk, who also scored two runs, stole two bases and two walks, rallied the Rails from a 3-2 deficit with his game-winning hit. Central had broke open a 2-2 game with a double by Keith Shaw and a run-scoring error by Prinne Curry in the top of the eighth.

Righthander Nik Peterson scattered five hits and struck out 12 batters in gaining the pitching win. Shaw, despite pitching a two-hitter and striking out seven, was the loser. He had relief help from Jamie Pascoe in the eighth.

Proctor, 8-1 overall and needing only one win to clinch the LSC title, got its second hit of the game when Mike Woods opened the eighth with a double. Matt Downs walked, then Pionk belted his bases-clearning triple with no outs.
