The Proctor Rails captured the Sub-Region 2 crown with a three-run sixth inning rally beating the Cloquet Lumberjacks 6-4 Friday.

Proctor picked up a run in the second inning when Nik Peterson reached first base on a walk and advanced and scored on two infield errors.

The Lumberjacks came back to tie it up 1-1 when Joe Weipert stole twice after reaching first on a walk and scored on an error by the catcher.

The Rails scored in the third inning on singles by Dave Lockwood and Mike Woods. Lockwood then scored on an outfield error.

The Lumberjacks moved out ahead in the third inning, scoring three runs. Eric Bottila singled with two out and stole second base. After walks to Mark Illikainen and Joe Weipert, Mark Johnson hit a three-run double.

Proctor scored again in the fifth inning on singles by Matt Downs and Scott Pionk. Downs came in for the run on a wild pitch.

Proctor scored the go ahead run when Jason Malec tripled in Chuck Flynn, who got on with a double. After John Kuzas walked, Mike Woods hit a two-run double, scoring Malec and Kuzas for the insurance runs.

[The] winning pitcher was Malec who came in to relieve Nik Peterson in the fifth inning. Malec had one strike out, five walks, giving up two hits and no runs.

Proctor advances to the regional tournament next week.
