Rails carve out first baseball win

Team has split results for week

Proctor 20, Mesabi E. 2

The Rails got to taste the sweetness of victory a couple of days later when they headed back to the east Iron Range for a game against Mesabi East.

Ryan Vanderscheuren was on the mound for the Rails, as the senior hurler went the distance for Proctor in this run-shortened game.

The Rails were ready for action. In the first inning Kyle Wojtysiak and Seth Reinke batted twice, while Jake Comnick, Vanderscheuren, Scott Lustig, Dustin Wiita, Chris Hansen, Blake Reinke, and Jesse Frick all had a turn at the plate. All but Lustig and Wiita scored.

Before Mesabi East ever got to touch a bat, Proctor was leading 7-0.

Proctor added two more runs in both the second and third innings. Heading into the top of the fourth, Proctor was leading 11-0 when three more Rails' runners crossed home plate to extend that lead to 14-0.

Mesabi East managed to score two runs and dash hopes for a shutout.

Proctor answered with six runs in the fifth and final inning.

Wojtysiak logged three hits as did Vanderscheuren, who also logged five [RBI]. Seth Reinke added two hits and three RBI's.

The Rails will host Two Harbors today, Thurs., at 4:30 p.m. They will be on the road to Mora tomorrow, Fri., before they travel to International Falls for a 1 p.m. game. On Tues., May 4, the team will host Grand Rapids at 4:30 p.m.
