Baseball team clobbered by Grand Rapids, top Central

Proctor 10, D. Central 3

On Friday, the Rails bounced back in a Lake Superior Conference outing at Duluth Central High School to get back on the winning track.

Senior Seth Reinke started things off as the lead-off batter with a well-hit single to left field. While he was the only one to reach base in the first inning, Reinke's hit set the pace for the day.

The Trojans cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs off back-to-back hits [off] of Proctor pitcher Paul Michelizzi.

The top of the second found Dan Solarz cracking a two-base hit to right field. As with Reinke he was stranded on base.

Proctor broke through in the third. Jake Comnick and Chris Hansen both crossed home plate to even the score at 2-2. Both runs were unearned as Comnick reached base on an error and Hansen made it to first with a walk.

Comnick scored on a well-hit single to left field by Kyle Wojtysiak. Hansen scored on the bobbled play that put Comnick on base.

It was the top of the fourth inning that the Rails exploded for five runs and the 7-2 lead. Michelizzi, Dustin Wiita, Seth Reinke, and his brother Blake Reinke all clouted singles. All went on to score. Wojtysiak also reached base thanks to a base on balls. He would also score.

Proctor rounded out the team's scoring efforts in the top of the sixth when Blake Reinke, Wojtysiak, and Dan Carlson all scored off a single, a double, and a batter hit by a pitch.

Central's third and final run crossed home plate in the bottom of the seventh.

Michelizzi went the distance for Proctor to pick up the win.

With the Rails win over Central, the team went to 5 and 5 on the season and 2-0 in [the] Lake Superior Conference...
