Proctor holds off Cloquet in baseball

CLOQUET -- Proctor jumped to a 5-0 lead after three innings and held off Cloquet 5-4 in a high school baseball game Thursday.

The Lumberjacks (4-8) rallied for four runs in the last of the sixth to cut the deficit to 5-4, but Proctor relief pitcher Kyle Wojtysiak stopped the rally to get the save.

Adam Stowell and Steve Mlodozyniec had two hits each for Cloquet.

Baseball regular season ends today

Proctor 5, Cloquet 4

On the road again Proctor was back in action 24 hours later in Cloquet. Once again, Proctor was taking on a team who has traditionally been one of the tougher squads in the Lake Superior Conference and the region.

...[Ryan Vanderscheuren worked five innings for the win. Kyle Wojtysiak pitched two shutout innings for the save.]...

Proctor struck in the top of the second with one run scored when Jake Comnick crossed home plate.

Proctor plated four runs in the top of the third, including the ultimate game-winner. It was Wojtysaik who brought that run in when he raced across home plate on a single by Blake Reinke.

The Rails were leading 5-0. Cloquet scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth. What seemed a solid lead looked very shaky for Proctor. However, the Rails defense toughened up to stop the Cloquet rally and held them scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
