Proctor Rails baseball playoffs underway

Proctor baseball heads into the playoffs. The number-4-seeded Rails (9-8 overall, and 6-5 in the Lake Superior Conference) faced Eveleth-Gilbert 5th Wed. [sic].

The winner will face either number 1 seeded Hermantown or Two Harbors, ranked 8th, today, (Thurs.) at 2 p.m. in Hinckley.

Proctor 9, Marshall 8

Proctor put another win in their column when they beat the Marshall Hilltoppers 9-8.

Kyle Wojtysiak went the full distance on the pitcher's mound to pick up the much needed Lake Superior Conference victory.

Senior Seth Reinke started things out for the Rails with an infield hit. After stealing second base, he raced home on a sacrifice by Wojtysiak. Jesse Frick scored in the second.

In the bottom of the third, Blake Reinke, Wojtysiak, Ryan Vanderscheuren, Dan Solarz, and Frick scored to take the 7-0 lead.

The Rails added one run in the fifth before Marshall exploded for eight runs to knot the score at 8-8.

In the bottom of the seventh Vanderscheuren reached base with a walk. Solarz, the designated hitter, clubbed a well-placed single that sent Vanderscheuren home to score the winning run.
