Rails' baseball hands North Shore crew first loss of season

In recent years Silver Bay has seen a marked improvement in their sports programs, with this winter's maiden trip to the State Tournament being the highlight of the school sports scene. Feedling off of the success of the hockey team the Mariners baseball team had jumped out to the early 3-0 start on the season.

However, the Proctor Rails spoiled that perfect mark Tuesday afternoon, as the Green and White toppled the Mariners 4-3 at Egerdahl Field.

Reportedly this was somewhat of a white-knuckler until the bottom of the fifth inning. That is when Aaron Slattengren stepped up to the plate to rip a blast at the outfield fence. The 11th-grader's two-run blast is what iced the cake for the Rails, who extended their record to 2-1 with the win.

Kyle Gustavson went the distance on the mound for Proctor, as he gunned down seven Silver Bay batters while allowing five Mariners hits on the day.
