Cloquet defeated Proctor, 5-2, in a Lake Superior Conference baseball game at Cloquet on Thursday, May 12.

Winning pitcher Gabe Sorenson allowed two runs on five hits and three walks. He had two strikeouts.

The Lumberjacks scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Joe Backus led off with a double and scored on Cooper Grashorn's RBI single. Grashorn advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chanlez Dilday, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI groundout by Alec Norrgard.

Cloquet went up 5-0 with a three-run fourth inning. The 'Jacks loaded the bases on singles by Sorenson and Austin Parenteau and a walk to Trent Anderson before Backus cleared the bases with a one-out double.

Proctor clawed back into the game with two runs in the fifth. Blake Koski hit a single with one out, Reid Morin walked and was lifted for courtesy runner Jordan Linder, and Nathan Carlson singled to load the bases for Derek Dahlgren's two-RBI single.

Losing pitcher Matt Morris (3-2 W-L, 2.33 ERA) allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Sorenson, Backus, and Grashorn had two hits apiece for Cloquet. Backus had three RBI.

Proctor is now 8-4. The Rails are back in action on Friday at home against Crosby-Ironton.
