Bret Olson hit two home runs and a double, scored three runs, and had six RBI to lead Two Harbors to a 9-8 victory over Proctor in a non-conference baseball game at Proctor on Friday, May 5.

Blake Koski scored the first run of the game on a solo home run, the first of his varsity career, in the bottom of the second inning.

After Easton Best reached on an error with one out in the third, Olson put the Agates ahead 2-1 with a two-run blast.

Proctor went ahead 5-2 with a four-run third inning. John Aase led off with a double and took third on a passed ball. He scored on Zach Gunderson's RBI single with one out. Gunderson stole second, and Koski and Ryan Lear walked to load the bases. Gunderson scored on a wild pitch, and Koski and Lear scored on a two-RBI double by Jordan Linder with two outs.

Luke Nordquist hit a solo home run to lead off the fourth, his second home run in two days, to give the Rails a 6-2 edge.

Eric Carlson reached on an error to start the Agates' fifth inning. He advanced to third base on a double by Best, and both runners scored on Olson's three-run dinger to bring the score to 6-5. After a strikeout, Trey Fleck walked but was forced out at second on a fielder's choice off the bat of Keller Conrow. Conrow then scored from first to tie the score when David Anderson reached on a two-base error.

Proctor went ahead 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth. Lear walked and Jerid Parrott was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Lear was forced out at third when Linder advanced to first on a fielder's choice. Reid Morin then walked to load the bases and Parrott scored on Nordquist's sacrifice fly.

Two Harbors took the lead for good in the top of the sixth. Carlson reached on an error with one out, Best walked, Olson hit a double to plate Carlson with the tying run, and Tim Louma followed with a go-ahead two-run single for a 9-7 advantage.

Gunderson led off the bottom half of the sixth with his first varsity home run for the Rails' final run.

In the seventh, Proctor got the tying run to second base when Nordquist led off with a double. The game-winning run also reached base when Bryce Huffman was hit by a pitch with one out, but the game ended when Gunderson smashed a hard ground ball down the third-base line that was fielded by Olson who touched third for the force out and then threw to first for a double play.

Winning pitcher Cody Brandt worked three and two-third innings in relief of starter Best. Brandt allowed two runs on four hits, three walks, and two hit batsmen. He had two strikeouts. Best allowed six runs on six hits and six walks in three and one-third innings. He had three strikeouts.

Mason Flick, who made his varsity pitching debut, picked up the loss in relief of Gunderson, who started. Flick (0-1 W-L, 7.00 ERA) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and one walk with two strikeouts in two innings. Gunderson worked the first five innings and allowed six runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Proctor, now 5-2, is at Superior on Tuesday, May 9, for the first Lake Superior Conference game of the season.

Rails Notes
