SUPERIOR -- Superior broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and evaded a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh to hold on to defeat Proctor in a Lake Superior Conference baseball game at Morrie Arnovich Memorial Field on Tuesday, May 7.
Andy Glonek scored on an RBI single by Jordan Hughes for the game-winning run in the sixth.
Proctor, down 4-1, rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Jimmy Merling connected for a two-run triple to tie the score after Matt Dolsen had earlier scored on a wild pitch.
Merling led off the top of the first inning with a single and scored from first base when Jake Malec's sacrifice bunt resulted in a throwing error.
Superior evened the score at 1-1 in the third on an RBI single by Spencer Severson. The Spartans took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Taavi Mattson scored on an error. Superior upped its lead to 4-1 with two runs in the fifth inning. Severson hit an RBI triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nik Mattson.
Dane Sislo earned the win in relief. He allowed one run on one hit and three walks in one-and-two-thirds innings. Severson, Superior's starting pitcher, worked the first five innings and allowed one unearned run on five hits and three walks. He had three strikeouts.
Losing pitcher Dolsen tossed a complete game for Proctor. He allowed three earned runs on eight hits, three walks, and one hit batsman in six innings. He had five strikeouts.
