HIBBING -- Proctor defeated Thief River Falls in the opening game of the Hibbing Wood Bat Tournament at Al Nyberg Field. Winning pitcher Paul Hegstrom allowed two runs on three hits and six walks with four strikeouts in five innings. Matt Dolsen threw two shutout innings of relief for the save. Dolsen did not allow any hits or walks but had one hit batsman. He had one strikeout, the final out of the game.

Proctor erased the Prowlers' 2-0 lead with four runs on five hits in the top of the fifth inning. Jake Malec led off with a single and stole second base, Joe Carter singled, and Jimmy Merling hit a double scoring Malec. Evan Scherber's single scored Carter and Merling also scored from second base as the ball got past the outfielder for an error. Hegstrom later drove in Scherber with a single.

Proctor got out of a jam in the bottom of the sixth when third baseman Cody Lewis snared a line-drive and beat the runner back to third base for an inning-ending double play.

Hegstrom's RBI single scored Merling in the top of the seventh for an insurance run.

Scherber had three hits and Hegstrom had two hits and two RBIs for Proctor, now 7-4.
