VIRGINIA -- Virginia defeated Proctor, 12-5, in a non-conference baseball game on Friday, April 23, at Stock Field. Winning pitcher Thomas Nemanich allowed five runs on eight hits and four walks with six strikeouts in six innings.

Virginia took the lead early, with a four-run first inning. The Blue Devils knocked six hits in the frame and 11 in the game.

Proctor cut the lead to 4-1 in the third inning on an RBI double by Kennan Reyelts, but Virginia answered by plating three runs in its half of the frame.

The Rails rallied for two runs in the fourth on Ryan Schubitzke's two-run double to bring the score to 7-3. But again Virginia responded with a four-run fourth.

The Blue Devils plated their final run in the sixth. Proctor had the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the seventh. The Rails managed two runs on RBI ground outs by Nolan McLeod and Cole Fugere to cap the scoring.

Nemanich led at the plate as well, with a 3-for-4 performance with three doubles. Daniel Moore and Dylan Hedley had two hits apiece for Virginia.

Jake Amendola took the loss. He allowed four runs on six hits and no walks with one strikeout in one inning pitched.

Blake Imhoff, Reyelts, and McLeod had two hits each for Proctor, 1-1. The Rails are back in action on Saturday, April 24, against Mesabi East at Aurora.
