DULUTH -- Duluth Marshall (#3) defeated Proctor (#6), 3-1, in the second round of the Section 7AA Playoffs at Wade Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Marshall scored a run in the bottom of the first on a leadoff walk, a stolen base, and an RBI single for a 1-0 lead.

The Hilltoppers scored another solo run in the second on a single, a sacrfice bunt, and an RBI triple.

Marshall's final run came in the sixth on three hits and a walk.

Proctor rallied in the top of the seventh. Ethan Carter led off by reaching on an error. Consecutive walks to Owen Baker and Cooper Johnson loaded the bases with no outs. Blake Imhoff lofted a pop fly to shallow left field that fell to the ground but caused a force out at third. Carter scored on the play for an RBI fielder's choice for Imhoff. A double play ended the threat and the game.

Nick Terhaar (1-1, 2.69 ERA) took the loss. He allowed two runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts in three innings. Wyatt Mineheine provided effective relief by allowing one run on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts in three innings.

Proctor had two hits, singles by Tanner Ross and Tyler Berglund.

The Rails, now 12-9, move to the elimination bracket and will face Mesabi East (#7) at Frandsen Bank and Trust Field at Rock Ridge High School in Virginia on Thursday, June 1, at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that game will play again at 7pm.
