VIRGINIA -- Tanner Ross hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift #6 Proctor to a 10-9 win against #7 Mesabi East at Frandsen Bank and Trust Field at Rock Ridge High School on Tuesday.

Winning pitcher Tyler Berglund (4-2, 2.06 ERA) tossed three and one-third innings in relief of starter Antrell Yoki. Berglund allowed 1 run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Mesabi East erased Proctor's 4-1 lead with a seven-run fourth inning.

Proctor scored two in the bottom of the fourth for an 8-6 score.

ME added its final run in the top of the sixth on a leadoff walk, an error, and a sacrifice fly. Ethan Carter's RBI single cut the lead to 9-7 in the sixth.

Down to their last opportunity and facing elimination, the Rails' plated three runs with no outs in the seventh.

Cooper Johnson led off with a single. Dylan Davidson ran for Johnson. Blake Imhoff singled, sending Davidson to second base. Wyatt Mineheine put down a sacrifice bunt and reached base safely on an errant throw. Davidson scored on the play with Imhoff and Mineheine advancing to third and second respectively. Ross then laced a grounder to left field inside the third base line to score both runners and secure the victory.

Blake Imhoff had three hits and two runs scored to lead Proctor. Berglund, Carter, and Cooper Johnson had two hits apiece.

Proctor, now 13-9, advanced to face #3 Duluth Marshall at 7pm in another elimination bracket contest.
