05/07/2017 - Grays Defeat Greens in 2nd Annual Alumni Game

The 2nd annual Rails Baseball Alumni Game was played at Terry Egerdahl Memorial Field on Sat., May 6. The Grays defeated the Greens, 9-6, in nine innings. The game featured 24 alumni ranging from the Class of 1994 to the Class of 2016.

The Grays featured Tony Flick and Jason Simonson, '94; Kevin Schubert, '08; Alex Oachs, '11; Cody Dolsen and Ryan McCarthy, '12; Jimmy Merling, '13; Alex Anstett and Michael Gales, '15; and Matt Tracey, '16.

The Greens featured Anthony Bush and Josh Schubitzke, '94; Scott Wojtysiak, '01; Kyle Wojtysiak, '05; Jon Kent and Justin Smith, '07; Caleb Maki, '08; Reed Olson, '10; Matt Dolsen and Jack Nikko, '13; Aaron Pinney and Brian Tracey, '15; and Nathan Carlson, '16.

Josh Stanley, student-manager from the Class of 2016, was honorary captain for both squads. Luke Nordquist served as the umpire.

For the Grays, Merling batted 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, and two RBI; McCarthy batted 2-for-5 with a run and three RBI; Oachs was 2-for-5 with an RBI; Gales was 1-for-4 with four runs; Cody Dolsen was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI; Matt Tracey was 1-for-5 with a run; and Simonson was 1-for-2.

For the Greens, Kyle Wojtysiak was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in the ninth inning; Schubitzke batted 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI; Brian Tracey was 1-for-3 with two runs; Scott Wojtysiak was 1-for-3 with a run; Jon Kent was 1-for-3 with a double; and Carlson was 1-for-5.

Gales earned the win as the starting pitcher for the Grays. He worked three shutout innings and allowed two hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Oachs tossed two innings of shutout relief, Schubert allowed one run in two innings, and Anstett was tagged with five runs in two innings. Cody Dolsen caught all nine innings.

Nikko pitched the first three innings for the Greens. He picked up the loss despite allowing just one run on four hits and no walks with one strikeout. Matt Dolsen pitched one shutout inning, Kent allowed three runs in one-third of an inning, Kyle Wojtysiak allowed three runs in an inning and two-thirds, and Bush allowed two runs in three innings. Schubitzke caught all nine innings.

Oachs and Kyle Wojtysiak led pitchers with five strikeouts apiece.

The Rails coaching staff, which includes five alumni (Kyle Wojtysiak, Bush, Cody Dolsen, Jake Lewis, and Drew Scherber), expresses their heartfelt appreciation to all the alumni who participated, and to the fans in attendance. The coaches are planning a bigger alumni event for 2018 to celebrate the new playing surface at Egerdahl Field.
