Carey J. Malec
Carey J. Malec, 67, of Superior, died Monday, December 13, 2021, at his residence.
Carey was born in Duluth, MN on October 4, 1954, the son of Frank and Peggy (Hollman) Malec, Sr. He married Cathy Carlson and they celebrated 30 years of marriage.
He served in the U.S. Navy, working as a disbursing clerk, and retired after 20 years of service. He also worked as a teller at Community Bank & Trust and did data entry at the Duluth Clinic.
Carey enjoyed, watching football and was a Minnesota Vikings fan. He also enjoyed, playing and coaching softball, bowling, and playing cards and cribbage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Sean Malec; twin brother, Charles; brother, James ‘Maynard’ Malec; sister-in-law, Donna Malec; brother-in-law, Finley Stalvig; and nephew, Shawn Burr.
Carey is survived by his wife, Cathy of Superior; children, Carey John (Katie) Malec, Jr. of Woodbridge, VA, Allison Malec of Superior, Jeff (Erin King) Petersen of Rogers, MN, and Matt (Lisa) Petersen of Minnetrista, MN; bonus son, Robert (Lisa) Moyer; grandchildren, Evelyn and Savannah Malec and Aili and Elsi Peterson; siblings, Frank Malec, Jr., Patricia (Peter) Stephenson, Jason (Terri) Malec, and Jayne (Michael) Lowry; mother-in-law, Ruie Carlson; longtime friend, Don Wilmot; and many extended family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 30th from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19th Street, Superior with military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
