Donald T. Fontaine

Donald T. Fontaine also known as "DTF" or "Red", 81 of Duluth, died Saturday, July 28, 2012 in his home surrounded by his family.

Donald was born April 20, 1931 in Duluth to Fred and Caroline (Scott) Fontaine.

He was raised in Proctor and graduated from Proctor High School in 1949, where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and after his service graduated from UMD. He retired from DM&IR Railroad as a real estate manager. Donald was a member and past president of the Duluth Archery Club and the Duluth Superior Alpine Club. He loved to hunt, fish, build model airplanes and participate in Pinewood Derby's. He was a crusader against animal cruelty and he loved to spend time with his family and friends.

His parents, Fred and Caroline, preceded him in death.

Donald is survived by his wife, Jeanice; children, Sue (Eric) Tokle, Scott (Melody) Fontaine and Mara (Rob) Roningen; brother, Wallace "Skip" (Sandra) Fontaine and grandchildren, Nels, Leif, Christian, Henry, Madeline, Nicholas and Isaac.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. Thursday with services at 11am in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1710 E Superior St. Burial with Military honors accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard at Sunrise Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Essentia St. Mary's Hospice, 407 E 3rd St. Duluth, MN 55805 or Animal Allies, 4006 Airport Rd. Duluth, MN 55811.
