Don Siiter Blanks Rails

CLOQUET -- The undefeated Cloquet high school baseball team yesterday blanked Proctor's Rails, 5-0, behind the one-hit pitching of Don Siiter in a District 26 league game here.

The victory was No. 8 in a row for the unbeaten Lumberjacks who are gunning for next week's highlight, a clash with Chisholm's defending state championship nine Friday at Cloquet.

Morgan Park's Wildcats will furnish the opposition next Tuesday evening at Athletic park here.

Rails Lose to Cloquet, 5-0; Defeat Cathedral, 5-2

The Proctor high school team lost to Cloquet 5-0 in a rain-soaked game at the Lumberjacks' diamond last Friday. The Rails were able to get only one hit off the serves of Siiter, Cloquet's pitcher. Cloquet had only four hits, but errors in the field beat the Rails. Ron Main was on the mound for Proctor and was charged with the defeat...

Note: Proctor 3, Cloquet 3 (10 innings)

The Rails traveled to Cloquet on Wednesday, June 15, to play what proved to be the longest game of the year. The two teams battled in a scoreless tie until the tenth inning when the Rails came to life to score three runs on one hit, two walks and an error. The Lumberjacks were not to be out done, however, as they also scored three runs in the tenth on one hit, two walks and two errors.

The game was called at that point because of darkness by Umpire Elmer Gorham. Gorham stated that the game would have to be continued at a later date on the Lumberjacks' field.
