Proctor Eliminates Agates
(Duluth News Tribune, August 3, 1949)

Two Harbors was eliminated from further consideration in the District 26 high school baseball tournament, falling victim to Proctor on the Rails' diamond, 3-0, last night...

...Ronnie Main [Ron Main], Proctor pitcher, held the Two Harbors nine to four bingles and struck out eight men. He was in control throughout the game.

Wayne Johanson's double in the fourth inning provided one of the two runs the Rails punched across to take the lead. Proctor added one more in the next inning to clinch the game.

Larry Brett led the Rails at the plate with two hits while Ken Swanson, Agate player, led his team with two of the four bingles they managed off Main.

Enter Semi-Finals in District Tournament
(Proctor Journal, August 4, 1949)

Proctor's high school team came through the first round of tournament play with flying colors, beating a tough Two Harbors nine, 3-0, on the local diamond Tuesday.

It was a pitchers' duel until the fourth inning when the Rails took life on two errors and a double by Wayne Johanson to forge into a 2-0 lead.

The Rails added another run in the fifth frame for insurance and were able to hold the lead the rest of the way. The Agates started a rally in the last inning when they got the bases loaded with two out, but Ron Main struck out the last man and that was the ball game.

Proctor now has won five games in a row and hope to stretch it to six when they meet the winner of the Central-Esko game in the semi-finals of the district tournament in the Duluth Municipal stadium next Monday night.

Agate Nine Defeated
(Two Harbors Chronicle and Times, August 11, 1949)

The Two Harbors high school Agates baseball team went down in defeat in 26th district competition on August 2 when they dropped a 3-0 decision to the Rails on the Proctor field. The Agates were held to four hits during the game against six for their opponents.

The Rails were held scoreless until the fourth inning when a double by Johnson and an Agate error contributed the runs. Swanson garnered the two hits for the locals with Smith and Alm contributing the remaining two.

Brett, Proctor shortstop, again scored in the fifth to put the game on ice for the winners. The Agates threatened during the seventh but just couldn't put the runs across.

The local boys have enjoyed a good season this year and even though they didn't enter regional play gave a good accounting of themselves.
