Rails Halted By Longsio

Dave Longsio tossed a neat four-hitter yesterday as Duluth East won its third straight Big Nine Conference baseball game, 2-0, at Proctor.

Only one runner got as far as third base against Longsio, who fanned nine and issued just one walk. With one out in the (seventh), the Rails threatened with a pair of singles, but the righthander stiffened to strike out the last two batters to end the game.

East got the only run it needed in the first inning. Bobby Hill singled and moved to second on a walk to Bill Savalainen. Dennis Johnson moved both runners up with a sacrifice and Hill scored on an infield error on Mark Williams ground ball.

Williams, the Greyhounds, slugging shortstop, blasted a home run in the fifth to account for the other run. It was his second of the season.
