VIRGINIA -- Proctor defeated Virginia, 6-2, in a non-conference baseball game at Stock Field. Jake Malec (1-0 W-L, 0.00 ERA) was the winning pitcher. He allowed one unearned run on two hits and four walks with five strikeouts in five innings. Michael Gales pitched two innings in relief. Gales allowed one unearned run on two hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Matt Morris and John Aase each contributed two-run singles in Proctor's five-run third inning.

Aase was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Malec was 1-for-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI. Morris was 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, Matt Tracey was 1-for-1 with a run, and Dylan Pionk scored two runs for Proctor.

Losing pitcher Hunter Thome went the distance for Virginia. He allowed six runs, all unearned, on four hits, five walks, and a hit batsman. He had eight strikeouts.

Riley Wilson was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Blue Devils.

Proctor, now 6-2, hosts Greenway on Thursday at 4:30 for the Rails' home opener.
