DULUTH -- Cloquet defeated Proctor, 10-5, in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Section 7AA Playoffs on Thursday, May 28, at Wade Stadium. The Lumberjacks overcame a 4-2 deficit with a six-run bottom of the fifth to send Proctor to the losers' bracket.

Cloquet went ahead 2-0 in the second inning. A double, single, and hit by pitch loaded the bases with none out. Proctor's Nathan Carlson made a diving catch on a short fly to center field for the first out and to prevent Cloquet from scoring. Austin Parenteau hit into a fielder's choice for the second out, but a run scored on the play. Hunter Roberts then hit an RBI single for the second run.

Matt Morris drove in Carlson with an RBI single in the third to bring the score to 2-1.

Proctor scored three runs in the fifth. Morris had an RBI fielder's choice and John Aase delivered a two-run single with two outs.

All told, the fatal bottom of the fifth saw Cloquet collect five hits and one walk. But Proctor also committed a wild pitch, a passed ball, and two errors. Proctor starter Michael Gales was chased with one out in the inning, relieved by Aase. Gales (4-3 W-L, 2.46 ERA) was tagged with the loss. He allowed seven runs (five earned) on six hits, two walks, and a hit batsman in four and a third innings. He had two strikeouts.

Cloquet added two runs in the sixth on an RBI triple by Gabe Sorenson and an RBI fielder's choice by Alec Norrgard.

Proctor scratched a run across in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Aase.

Aase was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs. Jake Malec was 2-for-3 with a run and Morris was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Sorenson led Cloquet. He was 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs, and two RBIs. Brandon Conklin was 2-for-3 and Norrgard was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Winning pitcher Mason Brenner allowed four runs on six hits, one walk, and three hit batsmen in five innings. He had five strikeouts.

Cloquet advanced to Tuesday's semifinals at Hibbing. Proctor played again right away against Duluth Marshall, which had defeated Esko, 17-13, in a wild elimination game earlier Thursday at Wade Stadium.
