Baker hit snaps tie, tips Rails
Duluth News Tribune, April 21, 1976

A two-out single by Mark Baker broke a tie and lifted Hermantown to a 4-3 baseball victory over Proctor Tuesday on the Hawks' field.

Proctor, held to just two hits, tied the score in the top of the seventh on three Hermantown errors. But the Hawks ran their record to 3-0 -- 1-0 in the Lake Superior Conference -- when Bill Bloom singled, Rick Borndal sacrificed him to second and Baker delivered his run-scoring hit.

Tim Bosiacki gave the Hawks their first lead at 2-1 when he doubled in two runs in the third inning.

Brian Budge was the winning pitcher. He hurled the seventh in relief of Larry Jampsa, who gave up the two Proctor hits.

The Hawks mustered seven hits.

Rail nine can't win for losing
Proctor Journal, April 29, 1976

The Rails lost their third close game of the season Tuesday at Hermantown. Proctor scored in the first inning on a single and stolen base by Jeff Merling and a sinlge by Mike Hudspith. The Hawks went ahead in the third, scoring two runs, and added one more in the fourth. The Rails came back with one run in the sixth on Jon Nelson's single, a hit batsman and an error. In the seventh Proctor tied the game 3-3 when Jay Nelson scored on two Hawk errors, but left the bases loaded without scoring again. Hermantown won it in the seventh on a two-out double with runners on first and second.
