The Rails won their first two games of the season by sweeping the twin bill with Northwestern of Maple at Lake Nebagamon, Wis. In the first game the Rails scored six runs in the first three innings and held on to win.

Mike Hudspith led Proctor with three hits and three runs batted in. Ken Elnes knocked in two runs with three hits and Jon Nelson and Jay Nelson each had two hits to lead the Rails' 13-hit attack. Denny Gulbranson was the winning pitcher with last inning relief from Dale Nikko.

In the second game Proctor jumped to a 6-0 lead after three innings, the big hits being home runs by Dale Nikko and Cliff Grover in the second inning. Hudspith and Elnes had hot bats in this game also, each getting two to pace the Rails. Nikko was the winning pitcher striking out 14, while walking three and giving up seven hits.

The leading hitters for the Rails through nine games are Hudspith, .400 average; Jeff Merling .357; and Hudspith's eight runs batted in are tops.
