Proctor takes LSC title with Norton's no-hitter

CLOQUET -- Proctor clinched the Lake Superior Conference title with an 11-1 victory over Two Harbors in six innings at Cloquet Tuesday.

Dan Norton pitched a no-hitter for the Rails, striking out 12 batters. Karl Strom started the game for the Agates, combing with Curt Wilson, on in relief with no outs in the first, to give up nine hits.

Bill Richardson's two-run double in the third inning led the hitting for Proctor. Scott Pionk had a single and a double and scored twice.

Tuesday's win was the Rails' ninth straight, after a season-opener loss to Elk River, for a 9-1 overall record and an 8-0 mark in the LSC. Proctor has one conference game remaining, against Morgan Park, but even a loss in that game will leave the Rails with the No. 1 conference ranking.
