Cloquet, Proctor advance to Sub-Region 2 showdown

CLOQUET -- Brian Durand threw a three-hitter and struck out eight as Cloquet defeated North Branch 7-2 in the semi-finals of the Sub-Region 2 tournament Tuesday.

The Lumberjacks, now 12-5, will meet Proctor, a 7-5 winner over Duluth Central in Tuesday's other semifinal game, today at 7 p.m., for the sub-region championship.

Dennis Conklin had three hits, including two doubles, and three RBI in pacing Cloquet. Joe Beaupre added a pair of singles and drove in two runs.

Ray Miles turned in 3 2/3 innings of two-hit relief pitching and drove in two runs with a pair of hits in the Proctor victory. Miles struck out five and didn't walk a batter. Jay Anderson also had two hits for the Rails.
