Jacobson's 3-hitter paces Cloquet

CLOQUET -- Jeff Jacobson threw a three-hitter with nine strikeouts Friday to lead Cloquet to a 5-1 victory over St. Francis in the first round of the Northland-Proctor high school baseball tournament.

Cloquet scored all five of its runs in the fifth inning, including a three-run homer by Brad Takkunen. Scott Carlson went 3-for-4 for the Lumberjacks with two doubles.

In other first-round games, Hibbing topped Duluth Denfeld 10-0 in six innings, Proctor beat Chisago Lakes 19-5 in five innings, and Brainerd beat North Branch 18-3, also in five.

Andy Morin picked up the pitching win and Mike Robertson, Jeff Buetow, Gary Colt and Joel Stephenson had two hits in Proctor's win.

Today's semifinals at Proctor pit Cloquet against Hibbing at 11 a.m. and Proctor against Brainerd at 1:30 p.m.

The final is set for 4 p.m. in Proctor.
