Troy Cusey threw a six-hitter and had two hits as the unbeaten [Grand Rapids] won the first game of a doubleheader 12-3. Jamie Gilbert added two hits for Grand Rapids.

Kelly Fairchild went five innings and picked up the win as [Rapids] took the second game 4-1. John Rysdam got the save on a combined three-hitter. Chris Cook homered for the winners. Troy Warren was the losing pitcher.

Proctor is 7-5.

 

Strong pitching keeps Rapids undefeated

Grand Rapids defeated Proctor 12-3 and 4-1 Friday evening, May 11, at Proctor.

[Rapids] stay[s] unbeated at 10-0. Proctor's record drops to 7-5.

[Rapids] got strong pitching in both games. Junior Troy Cusey went the distance in the first game, striking out four while giving up six hits. Junior Kelly Fairchild pitched the first five innings of the second game, striking out six and giving up five hits. Jon Rysdam got the save, pitching the final two innings and striking out two.

Sophomore designated hitter Jamie Gilbert had two hits and two RBI in the first game. Pitcher Troy Cusey also had two hits and two RBI. Outfielders Justin Longtin and Dave Kuschel had two hits apiece and scored twice.

Junior Chris Krook hit the first home run of his career in the fourth inning of the second game. The solo blast down the left field line traveled 340 feet. Jon Rysdam singled three times and had two RBI. Troy Cusey had a single and a double.

Designated hitter Mark Cooper lost a home run when the umpire said his line drive went through the "snow fence" and ruled it a ground-rule double.

Proctor's senior right fielder Brian Mrozik had three hits and two RBI in the doubleheader. Sophomore third baseman Brian Zuck had two hits and two RBI. Mike LaLonde, a junior right hander, took the loss in game one. Sophomore right hander Troy Warren took the loss in the second game for Proctor.

Grand Rapids will put its unbeated string on the line Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when they host Greenway who is 9-5.
