Baseball evens record at 4-4 with big week

Proctor led off the week with a 6-3 non-conference victory over Carlton, at the Bulldogs' home diamond.

On the mound for the Rails was Dan Carlson, who went the distance to pick up the much-needed win. He gave up six hits, he struck out seven, and allowed no walks.

Carlton held the Rails scoreless through the first two innings.

It was Kyle Wojtysiak who started things off in the third with a hard hit single to right field. Two batters later Jake Comnick blasted the ball over the left field fence for the two-run home run.

Carlton scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Rails' lead in half.

The top of the fifth again found Wojtysiak leading off and for the third straight time with a single. Seth Reinke was next up. He took a base on balls to put runners at first and second with no outs.

Ryan Vanderscheuren slugged a triple to center field to send Wojtysiak racing home for the 3-1 lead. Carlson launched a fly ball to right field, which though caught for the out allowed Vanderscheuren to race home for the Rails' fourth run of the game.

Chris Hansen scored in the top of the sixth inning and Vanderscheuren in the seventh.

Carlton drove in two more in the bottom of the sixth, to close in to within a single run of the Rails.

Wojtysiak led the way at the plate going 3-for-4 and scoring two runs. The Rails clubbed nine hits including Comnick's home run.
