Rails baseball team showing potential

It was a tough sixth week of the baseball season for the Rails as they went 1-3.

Greenway 16, Rails 13

While Proctor out-hit Greenway 17-13, they couldn't get as many runs across the plate as the Rails were edged by the Raiders 16-13.

The Rails showed tenacity returning. They were one out away from being ten-runned in the fifth, when Drew Scherber hit a three-run home run that kept Proctor alive.

Scherber was four-for-five with three runs scored and four RBIs in the game. Freshman [Mickey O'Connor] was three-for-three with one run scored and one RBI.

Dan Solarz, Paul Michelizzi, Blake Reinke, and Justin Filzen all had two hits and scored at least one run in the game. Michelizzi was the losing pitcher.

"This game against Greenway was another example of poor pitching causing problems for us this season," [Coach] Rohweder said. "What was really nice to see, though, was the ability of the younger players in the program to step in and almost come back and win this game from a 12-run deficit."

"Although we did not have enough to come back and win, I was pleased with the never-say-die attitude we displayed," he added.
