Blue Devils, Trojans fall to Rails

It didn't matter whether the game was held at home or on the road last week as the Proctor baseball team won two contests to bring their season record to 7-2-1.

The Rails began their winning week by pulling out an 8-7 victory over Virginia in nine innings at Egerdahl Field on Wed., May 3. The Blue Devils had pulled ahead no less than four times, but were foiled by repeated rallies by a Proctor team that simply would not quit.

Dan Carlson went the distance in the marathon game, pitching all nine innings to claim the win with five strikeouts while allowing nine hits. Carlson also helped on the other side of the plate, scoring two runs himself -- one of them the winning run when the Rails took their turn at bat in the bottom of the ninth. Carlson was aided by teammates Justin Filzen, who had two RBI's, and Paul Michelizzi, with two hits. Virginia pitcher Kyle Roskowski helped his team repeatedly take the lead by striking out eight Proctor batters...
