Josh Shiane had three hits, including a homer, five RBIs and two runs scored as the Bluejackets topped the host Rails.

Mike Tuomi had four hits, three runs and three RBIs.

Hibbing improved to 16-3 and the Rails drop to 10-9-1.

Proctor Baseball hosts Marshall in play-off opener

It was a rough week for the Proctor baseball team. Besides dodging potential rainstorms at every turn, the Rails came up with a goose egg in all three of their games, including two contests at Egerdahl Field -- usualy a safe haven.

...Back at Egerdahl on Thursday hoping for some much-needed magic, the Rails fell to a powerhouse Hibbing team 10-3. Bluejackets Mike Tuomi and Josh Shiane put on a batting clinic, the two accounting for eight RBI's in the game. The Rails finished the regular season with a 10-9-1 record.

The Hibbing game was held in honor of the 30th anniversary of Proctor's first team to participate in the state tournament. The 1976 Rails beat then-dominant Grand Rapids en route to a state berth. Proctor lost in the first round at Wadena, but of primary importance was the pioneering foothold established for the sport in the post-season...
