Rails beat defending section champs Mora 9-8

Proctor downed defending Section 7AA champion Mora 9-8 in a Fri., April 27 game at home. The important win brought the Rails to 4-3 on the season.

Bearing the brunt of a 12-2 total team loss in six innings at Hinckley-Finlayson the previous Monday, Proctor pitcher Kyle Cotrell had a golden opportunity to shake off self-recrimination and seek redemption against Mora. With an 8-8 tie with the Mustangs last season fresh in their minds, the Rails dearly wanted better this time around. In truth, various members of the team and coaching staff felt Proctor outplayed Mora in that 2006 game.

Redeption earned, for both Cotrell and his team, as the Rails beat the Mustangs in a thriller.

Cotrell pitched five innings, holding the section champions to a measly five hits and zero earned runs. Cotrell was aided greatly by teammate Jon Kent, who blasted two triples to drive in two runs and scored two runs himself. Classmates Drew Scherber and Jon Podgornik added to the festivities at the plate. Scherber had three hits and scored twice, while Podgornik hammered two solid hits and drove in two base runners...
