Duluth Central 6, Proctor Rails 2

DULUTH -- Duluth Central defeated Proctor in the last regular season baseball game between the two schools at the Duluth Central Field. Central will merge with Duluth Denfeld for the 2010-2011 school year. Central scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning as the first three batters singled off of Proctor's starting pitcher Jake Lewis (Soph.). Proctor answered with two runs in the top of the third inning. Nick Nylund (Jr., C) hit a lead-off double, Ian Scherber (Soph., OF) was hit by a pitch, and Jimmy Merling (Fr., OF) walked. Jesse Scanlon (Fr., OF), the courtesy runner for Nylund, and Scherber both scored on wild pitches. It was all Proctor could muster and Central tacked on two runs each in the third and fifth innings.

Lewis (2-1, 3.50 ERA) picked up his first career loss in five varsity starts. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks. He had four strikeouts in the complete game effort.

Proctor was limited to four hits: Nylund's double and singles by Merling, Ryan McCarthy (Soph., 1B), and Tyler Pionk (Jr., SS).
