DULUTH -- Duluth Denfeld defeated Proctor in a Lake Superior Conference baseball game at Wade Stadium. Denfeld scored three runs in the third inning on four consecutive singles and a hit batsman. The inning ended on a leaping catch on a line-drive by Proctor third baseman Pat Everson, who then beat the runner back to third base for a double play. Denfeld added a run in the fourth inning on a two-base throwing error, a passed ball, and a safety squeeze play. The Hunters made it 6-0 in the fifth inning on an RBI double and an errant throw that allowed the batter-runner to reach third base, and a sacrifice fly.
 
Proctor got a run in the sixth inning when Jimmy Merling led off with a walk, stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by Ian Scherber.
 
Ben Nelson (1-2, 3.29 ERA, 17.0 IP) earned the complete-game loss. He allowed four earned runs on eight hits and zero walks in six innings pitched. He had two strikeouts.
 
Notes:
 
The Rails' home game against International Falls was canceled in the top of the first inning due to fog. It will not be rescheduled... Proctor's junior varsity baseball team suffered its first loss of the season, an 11-3 loss to International Falls at the Wheeler Athletic Complex in Duluth. Proctor had defeated Denfeld 4-3 in the first game. The junior varsity is now 14-1-1.
