PROCTOR -- The Rails pounded out 11 hits en route to winning their home opener over Two Harbors in a non-conference baseball game at Egerdahl Field. The game was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run rule.
 
Justin Scanlon delivered at least one RBI in each of his four plate appearances. He got the Rails on the board in the first inning with a two-run single, and finished with three hits and five RBIs. Tyler Pionk hit a two-run double in the second inning to give Proctor an early 4-0 lead. Pionk had three hits and three RBIs. Ryan McCarthy continued his impressive start to the season with two hits and four RBIs. Jake Lewis had two hits, and Jimmy Merling had a hit, three runs scored, and three stolen bases.
 
Lewis (2-0, 2.90 ERA) earned the complete-game win. He allowed one earned run on two hits and four walks. He had six strikeouts.
 
The Rails (2-0) are next in action on Wed., April 27, at Mora, a rescheduled game from April 16. The game will start at 5:00 p.m.

Rails Notes: Jake Lewis improved his career pitching record to 11-1. He is now tied with Nik Peterson (1979-81) for second-place in PHS history for career wins. Only Dale Nikko has won more games for the Rails. Nikko won 20 games from 1975-78. Tyler Pionk scored four runs on Thursday, making him the second player in PHS history to record 50 or more career runs... Pionk had three RBIs in Thursday's game, giving him 42 in his career. He became the fourth player in PHS history to record 40 or more career RBIs.
