EVELETH -- Jack Nikko allowed one run in six innings in his first varsity start and the Rails improved to 13-0 with a 7-3 victory over Eveleth-Gilbert in a non-conference baseball game at Eveleth.
 
Justin Scanlon had an RBI single and Cody Dolsen hit a two-run double as Proctor's first four batters scored in the top of the first inning. Jimmy Merling added a run on a wild pitch in the second inning, and Ryan McCarthy connected for a two-run double in the sixth inning.
 
Eveleth scored a run in the first inning on an RBI groundout, and added two runs in the seventh inning on a two-run double by Adam Currie.
 
Nikko (1-0, 0.78 ERA) scattered seven hits and walked three; he had one strikeout.
 
McCarthy, Jesse Scanlon, and Evan Scherber each had two hits for Proctor. Brian Sandstrom had two hits for Eveleth-Gilbert.
 
The Rails are back in action at home on Saturday, May 21, against Fargo Shanley. The game will start at 3:00 p.m.

Rails Notes: With two RBIs in Friday's game, Ryan McCarthy is now the PHS record-holder for career RBIs. McCarthy, a junior, has 51 career RBIs. Dan Carlson (2003-06) was the previous record-holder with 50. McCarthy has 33 RBIs in 13 games this season.
