HIBBING, Minn. -- Proctor concluded its regular season with a 15-1 record as the Rails defeated Hibbing 16-5 in a non-conference baseball game at Hibbing. Proctor had a 10-0 lead after three-and-a-half innings, but Hibbing stormed back with a five-run fourth inning to bring the score to 10-5. Proctor added six unanswered runs in the final three frames.
 
The Rails took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Justin Scanlon. An eight-run third inning was highlighted by Nick Nylund, Ian Scherber, and Jimmy Merling all hitting two-run doubles.
 
Hibbing's big fourth inning included four hits and four Rails errors.
 
Proctor's Ian Scherber had two doubles, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Justin Scanlon had three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. Jesse Scanlon had two hits and two RBI's. Evan Scherber had two hits, two runs scored, and one RBI. Pat Everson had a double and three RBIs.
 
Winning pitcher Ben Nelson (4-0, 2.30 ERA) allowed three earned runs in five innings on six hits, one walk, and one hit batsman. He had three strikeouts. Alex Oachs pitched two perfect innings in relief with two strikeouts.
 
Proctor will host a first-round Section 7AA Playoffs game on Wed., June 1.

Rails Notes: The Rails set a new school record for team RBI's in a season. The 2011 squad now has 145 RBI's. The previous record of 138 was set in 2010... Tyler Pionk set new PHS career records in games played (70), runs scored (61), and times on base (hits, walks, hit-by-pitch) (116). The previous PHS record of 69 games played was held by Charlie Habermann (2006-09). The previous PHS record of 59 runs scored was held by Drew Scherber (2004-07), and the previous PHS record of 113 times on base was also held by Drew Scherber... Pionk also moved into second-place on the PHS career walks list. His 41 walks are second only to Mark Slattengren's 65 from 1984-87... Justin Scanlon became the fifth player in PHS history to record sixty or more career hits. He now has 61 hits.
