Proctor Defeats Central
May 1, 2008 --
The Proctor Rails defeated the Duluth Central Trojans 9-7 in a Lake Superior Conference baseball game in Duluth. Junior first baseman Eric Makitalo broke a 7-7 tie in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run double. Senior pitcher Kyle Cotrell (2-1, 3.60) picked up his second complete game win of the week. Cotrell allowed six earned runs on 10 hits and six walks, while striking out four Central batters. He was pitching on two days rest. Proctor had a season-high 12 hits. Cotrell led the way, going three for four with a single, double, and a home run. He had three RBI. Sophomore right fielder Reed Olson also homered for Proctor. Makitalo and junior catcher Tim Nylund each had two hits. Proctor jumped out to a 7-1 lead after two-and-a-half innings, but Central battled back with three run in the third inning, two runs in the fourth inning, and the tying run in the sixth inning before Makitalo answered with his two-out double.
