Grand Rapids defeated Proctor 8-4 Thursday, May 19, in a game played at Proctor.

Proctor drew first blood as Brady Peterson tripled and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Jeremy Zywicki.

[Grand Rapids] came back with three runs in the third on a walk by James Brubaker and a single by Eric Simonson and a two-RBI single by Dan Piilola. Piilola scored on a single by Bob Kuschel. Rapids added two more in the fifth as Brubaker, Eric Simonson and Piilola all singled to load the bases. Bob Kuschel's ground ball scored Brubaker and Simonson came in on a wild pitch. In the sixth, Andy Haanpaa reached on a fielder's choice, moved to third on ground out and scored on a wild pitch. Rapids added two more in the seventh when Mark Hanson reached on an error, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Kevin Titus. Titus advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a single by Haanpaa and scored on a wild pitch.

Proctor added two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to make the final score 8-4.

Brian Simonson went the distance on the mound to pick up the victory. He scattered six Proctor hits while striking out 10 and walking six.

[Grand Rapids is] now 11-4 on the season and will most likely receive a bye in the first round of the sub-section tournament which begins on Wednesday, May 25.
